I've always been told I should "go out on my own". Let my start by saying this is in no way, something I want to do full time. I absolutely love my career. But I also love to bake.
It all started with a goody table at work (more than likely for someones birthday) just over two years ago. People bring in their favorite dishes; cheese dip, meatballs, mac 'n cheese. I had only made cakes for my fiance and the kids, but at the time I figured it would be too much work to make sure everyone got an equal amount (I'm all about fairness). So I volunteered cupcakes. That's when I fell in love with them, and so did my colleagues.
So what's my secret? I used to say "They are made with love". But I really don't have a secret.
I started out making one batch (approx 24 cupcakes). When word spread, and I moved around the department, I couldn't make less than two batches, and I was deemed "The Cupcake Lady" (which I didn't really like because it's so close to "The cat lady" or "The bag lady"). There was a time when my boss had me make a batch just for her to take home! OMG, three batches?
A short time after that, people started asking me to bake them for their events...mostly their kid's birthday parties. Totally fine with me!! That gave a chance to experiment and get better. And . . . I did. Co-workers always said I should open a cupcake shop because there are none in the area, and I would make a killing.
So here I am. Taking a chance. Hoping this works.
